Become Aware of Your Inherited Purpose that Sabotages Your Wealth

This is video 1 out of 3 for the ego consciousness series.

Your ego consciousness or inherited purpose is the unconscious identification with form. In other words, it can be complete attachment with material possessions, loved ones, your thoughts, feelings, and the character you think you are.

Everything that is form is impermanent. Which means it will eventually dissolve and pass away. Complete attachment to form or your ego is the root cause of suffering.

Most of us know about the ego, but do not realize it in ourselves. We become completely identified with our beliefs, values, strategies, and personality that there is only one perspective in life and it is your perspective.

The ego attempts to find salvation in the external world by accumulating and finding an identity so it can be bigger and more inflated. Its thoughts are, "The more I have and the more I do, the better and more unique I will be." What the ego does not realize is that its attempt to inflate itself leads down a path of dysfunction.

Thus, spiritual practice was born. And the core of most spiritual practices are to annihilate or kill the ego so a person can become ego-less. However, this does not work either. The desire to be egoless is the ego coming through the back door identifying with the persona of being "spiritual".

You may burn incense, be dedicated in practice, and idolize your sitting meditation, but when you are out in the "real world", you see others as not being spiritual and judge their unconsciousness with the thought that you are one up on that person because you are more aware. Even though you are aware of your thoughts, it is still ego. You can't get rid of it. You can only disown the ego and that is the fault of most spiritual practices.

The idea is to embody and embrace the ego for what it is. Welcome and love your small little me who is the center of the frick'in universe. Love the fact that you have an ego that contributes to individuality, growth, and evolution because you need the ego- when it is healthy.

What I recommend you do is get to know your ego. Take on the ego in first person and identify with it. Ask to speak to it by saying, "May I please speak to the ego?" And you reply, "Yes, I am the ego." Okay, you are the ego. So, what is your function? What do you do? See what comes up and voice it out loud or write your ego on paper.

The more you get to know your ego, the more you embody it from a healthy perspective. The ego will begin to serve you by providing the healthy structures for your personal growth. It is important to understand that your ego and the self are not the same thing. Picture yourself as the container that holds the ego and all of your states of mind. Your ego could be the personality contents that are you and were conditioned into you.

The Exercise

This is a voice dialogue exercise meant to help you embody and create a healthy ego. Your ego or inherited purpose serves a great function to the world by facilitating the creative process of consciousness into form. When the ego is unhealthy or disowned, which is the greater population, the ego becomes very destructive casting shadows in your life and the world. These shadows range from complete identification with form to violence to greed and on to extreme selfishness.

What you have to do is take on the ego in first person and speak from it as if you are the ego. Trust the process and see what comes up. Voice it out loud or write the response that comes up on paper. You will play the role of the facilitator and the ego. Make sure you are in a quiet space and sitting down. Use the facilitation guide below:

Facilitator: May I please speak to the ego?

You: Yes, I am the ego.

Sit with this realization that "I am the ego" for 30 seconds. Turn your attention inward.

Facilitator: Tell me about you ego. What is your function? What do you do for the self?

You: (answer the question above and see what comes up. There are no wrong answers. What you feel come up is the right answer. Make sure you voice it out loud.)

Facilitator: How do you, the ego, feel about spiritual practice?

You: (answer the question above and see what comes up. There are no wrong answers. What you feel come up is the right answer. Make sure you voice it out loud.)

Facilitator: Is there anything else you would like to say?

You: (answer the question above and see what comes up. There are no wrong answers. What you feel come up is the right answer. Make sure you voice it out loud.)
